Exhibition: 3000 years of architecture in La Teste-de-Bug

Since the end of the Bronze Age, wooden construction has been the backbone of regional architecture. It was not until the Middle Ages that the first stone buildings appeared in the town centre of La Teste (notably the church and the castle). From the second half of the 16th century, civil stone architecture began to supplant that of wood, until becoming dominant in the following centuries. Timber construction is then relegated to the ancillary buildings: cellars, barns, cabins... This exhibition traces 3000 years of evolution of the testerin building through 32 explanatory panels. The oldest periods are illustrated thanks to the results of recent archaeological excavations, notably on the Dune du Pilat, while the stone architecture of the modern era is presented through its most characteristic architectural elements. Objects, construction elements and models will enrich this presentation. 📍 An event organized by the Friends of the Pays de Buch Museum (AMPB) association, in partnership with the Pays de Buch and Bassin d'Arcachon Museum and the Pays de Buch Archaeological Research Group (GRAPBA).
