Commented visit of the astronomical observatory Pierre Fayadat
Hidden from view exists in Joigny, in the Yonne, a small white building surmounted by a dome and housing a 310 mm telescope, all entirely made piece by piece by Pierre Fayadat, a local carpenter passionate about astronomy. This site is one of the only and very rare amateur observatories of Burgundy. He asked for twenty-eight years of work for its realization (1959 -1987). Today, the telescope remains unique both in terms of technology for the time and the origin of its manufacture. Even if it remains unknown, it constitutes an element of the local cultural heritage. Come discover it on the occasion of the European Heritage Days. Informations Free entry | The observatory is located behind the evangelical church.
