Aperçu

In 1818 merchant businessman Philippe Winter Nicolle built No.9 Pier Road, the address of the Victorian House at the Jersey Museum, for his family. This piece of St Helier architecture has a much darker story behind it. Nicolle had inherited money from his uncle, Josué (Joshua) Mauger, a ship owner based in Nova Scotia who traded in enslaved people. Find out more about the house and its links to the transatlantic mahogany slave trade for FREE at the Jersey Museum. Accessibility
