The Academy of Savoy was founded in 1820 by four personalities from Chambery, General Count of Mouxy de Loche, Canon Alexis Billiet, future Cardinal-Archbishop of Chambéry, professor and historian Georges-Marie Raymond, and Senator Count Xavier de Vignet, husband of Césarine de Lamartine, sister of the poet. In 1827, the king of Sardinia, Charles-Félix, recognized it under the name of "Royal Academic Society". His successor, King Charles-Albert, placed it in the rank of the Academy of Turin in 1848 by calling it "Royal Academy of Savoy". After the reunion of Savoy with France, Emperor Napoleon III confirmed its privileges and renamed it «Imperial Academy of Savoy» by a decree of 14 July 1860. After the fall of the Empire, it took on the name of Académie des Sciences, Belles-Lettres et Arts de Savoie (Academy of Science, Letters and Arts of Savoy), a name that has remained to this day. The Academy has been housed since 1874 at the Château des Ducs de Savoie by the Conseil départemental de la Savoie. It holds sessions every month where papers are presented on various subjects, history, politics, arts, sciences, heritage, ... She is also engaged in heritage actions: after having been at the initiative of the restoration of the stage curtain of the Charles Dullin theater, she launched a subscription for the renovation of the Grand salon of the same theater. During the Heritage Days, the visit of his living room and library is free. Some remarkable ancient works are presented. Its history and current organization can also be discussed with interested visitors. https://www.academiesavoie.org
