⏳ History and changes:🏚️➡🏡

The Pio Palace was built in the 11th century as a castle. From the 14th century onwards, the Pio family transformed it into an impressive noble residence. It underwent a Renaissance transformation at the behest of Alberto III Pio in the 16th century. After centuries of modifications, including the construction of towers and fortresses (such as the Torre del Passerino and the Torrione degli Spagnoli), the palace became the center of the Pio family's power. It later served various purposes and today houses the Museums of the Pio Palace, the Municipal Historical Archives, and the City Museum.

🔨 Who built it: 🔨

The Palazzo dei Pio was transformed into the prince’s residence and built by order of Alberto III Pio. Over the years, the castle was expanded and modified, achieving its current appearance thanks to the work commissioned by various Pios.

👻  The legend of the Palazzo Pio: 👻

It is said that this "Lady," married to the prince, was killed by him when he threw her down from the castle. Then, days later, the prince returned from a party and saw his wife, but with a strange appearance; she had become a ghost. Then she immediately disappeared. After three days of excruciating agony, the prince was dead. It is said that anyone who sees the white lady at night suffers excruciating pain for three days and then dies.

🤔  Our opinions: 🤔

For us, the Castle is the most striking building upon entering Piazza Martiri. Carpi is a small city but with a big heart and our square is one of the largest in Italy. It is the heart of Carpi and  has a heart itself, and we believe this is the Palazzo dei Pio. It's no coincidence that it's a very famous and beautiful stately home, known beyond Carpi and beloved by our people.
