FOLLOWING THE RED BALOON THROUGH BURGOS
We, David, Sergio, and Hugo, have been discussing the heritage of our city, Burgos. This city is full of traditions, monuments, and cultural and historical sites. Burgos is a society of the past, preserving its ancient identities such as buildings, sculptures, squares, monuments, and museums, as well as customs, stories, legendary figures, and celebrations. Heritage connects us to our history and is part of who we are as a community.
Our home has a very rich and varied heritage. Among the most important elements are Burgos Cathedral, the Arch of Santa María, the Plaza Mayor, the Gran Teatro, El Cid Campeador, and the Museum of Human Evolution, among others. All of them are part of the history, culture, and identity of Burgos.
The personal heritage that represents us is Burgos Cathedral. Since we were children, we have seen it as a symbol of our city and a place that conveys history and beauty. Another of the things that best represents us is the Plaza Mayor, because it is a place where we have spent time with our friends and family. These places are part of our memories and our way of understanding Burgos.
Our video aims to showcase some of the most important elements of Burgos' heritage. Through a combination of close-ups, wide shots, and moving images, we want to convey the grandeur of the city, its history, and the relationship we have with its most emblematic spaces. We use a red balloon to establish our narrative thread, increasing its size as we walk through the streets of the city, filling it with our memories and our learnings.
The video begins by defining what heritage is. As we speak, we show general images of the city to situate the viewer. Heritage is introduced as something we have inherited from the past and which forms part of our identity.
First, we talk about Burgos Cathedral, the jewel in the city's heritage crown. Wide shots, details of the spires and exterior shots are combined to highlight its grandeur. The intention is to leave the viewer with a sense of admiration for this monument, the ultimate symbol of Burgos.
We then continue talking about the Arco de Santa María, one of the historic entrances to the medieval city. Here we show details of its façade, its structure, and its function as a historic gateway to the old town. We want to convey the feeling of entering the Burgos of the past.
Next, the third place that appears is the Plaza Mayor, one of the most representative spaces in the old town. We show the atmosphere that usually prevails. We want to convey the importance of this place as a social center and meeting point for citizens. We wanted to break the fourth wall, as they say in cinema, to keep the viewer entertained with our tour.
Then we present the statue of El Cid Campeador, a key figure in the history of Burgos. At this point, we want to convey the mixture of history, legend, and Castilian identity. It is next to the Gran Teatro, where it continues to be used as the main venue for important theatrical productions.
Finally, we had yet to visit one of the buildings that represents the scientific side of Burgos' heritage. We show the modern architecture of the building and its connection to the Atapuerca archaeological sites. Here we want to convey that Burgos also has an innovative heritage of international relevance.
The video ends with a personal reflection on what heritage represents us, accompanied by shots of places that have special meaning for us. Together with our friend the balloon, we have visited many places that represent us in our city.
Thanks to this work, we have learned many new things that we did not know about the ancestors of our city.
