From 26th – 28th September, Ευρωπαϊκές ημέρες πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς in Greece is taking part in this year’s shared theme with the motto ‘Architectural Heritage: Bridging the Past to the Future’. Events will be exploring the infrastructure and function of the built environment as well as the design style of buildings from grand monuments to everyday places. Alongside digital events, most activities will be in-person and visitors can enjoy free entry to all state archaeological sites, museums and monuments on the Saturday and Sunday. Experience cultural heritage digitally in Austria

In Austria, this year’s edition of Tag des Denkmals will be encouraging visitors to experience historical objects from new perspectives with the theme ‘Preserve Monuments, Experience Them Digitally’. Taking place on the 28th September, events will explore the role of digitalisation for preserving cultural heritage across aspects from archiving and innovative research methods to communication. Participants can discover how technology such as 3D scanning, high-resolution photography and digital modelling enables them to experience history in new ways, as well as how digital documentation and analysis is contributing to the protection of monuments. Visit places in the Czech Republic across September

This year, the dates for Dnech evropského dědictví in the Czech Republic have been extended, and for the first time events will be taking place across the whole month of September! The program is particularly designed to create special experiences not available at other times, including access to buildings not normally open to the public. This year around 700 monuments are opening their doors, and visitors can experience a range of places with the Architectural Heritage theme including events at castles, palaces, cathedrals and archaeological sites, as well as finding out more about getting involved in protecting and promoting historic monuments. Enjoy an evening of culture in Italy

Through the theme ‘Architecture: The Art of Building’, events for Giornate Europee del Patrimonio in Italy will be reflecting on the cultural value of the built landscape on the 27th and 28th September. Historic places will be on display, with visitors encouraged to consider architecture as a living expression of history and culture and contextualise it in a social and European context. As well as listings across the two-day event, visitors can also enjoy special late entry to many places which are opening on the Saturday evening, with activities such as guided tours and performances at venues including state museums, palaces, archaeological sites and art galleries. Learn about restored buildings in Croatia

Across September and into October, Dani europske baštine in Croatia is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year by remembering the 1995 launch which started with the Posavina village of Krapje being proclaimed as a village of architectural heritage. This year’s events also mark five years since a devastating earthquake damaged buildings across central Croatia, with organisers highlighting how restoration work is enabling events to once again be held in some of those historic venues, including the opening of a modern sculpture exhibition in a restored neoclassical building in Sisak. Visit construction sites in Monaco

Monaco’s Architectural Heritage will be the topic of events for Journées Européennes du Patrimoine on the 5th October. Around 50 venues are taking part this year, including a number of building sites where visitors will be able to learn about sustainable construction techniques and discover the work of craftsmen, technicians, engineers and architects. Other events include architectural walking tours to explore styles including Art Nouveau and Post-Modernism as well as children’s workshops encouraging younger people to learn about architecture through games and drawing activities. Appreciate the value of built heritage in Slovenia

Based on the shared theme, ‘Walls of Our Past, Foundation of Our Future’ is the slogan for this year’s program in Slovenia, and events will be emphasising the importance of communities and individuals in valuing and caring for historic places across the country. The theme will also be exploring the meanings and stories of buildings as places for people, memory and traditions, as well as highlighting topics such as traditional skills and environmental sustainability. Take part in events throughout the autumn in Spain

Jornadas Europeas de Patrimonio in Spain is taking part in the shared theme, Architectural Heritage. Historic monuments across the country will open their doors with over 1,200 activities such as guided tours, exhibitions, performances and creative workshops running from September right through to November. As well as showcasing the diversity of architectural styles, the theme will be particularly focusing on the relationship between communities and the built environment, highlighting related aspects of intangible heritage and considering the role of public awareness in safeguarding architecture for the future.
