This project aims to create a dynamic structure of the associative and citizen from groups integrated in the region of Alto Palancia and Alto Mijares of the province of Castellón (Spain).

It brings together communities around cultural heritage in order to generate a network, create synergies and design common solutions to collective problems on the knowledge and valorization, conservation and use of heritage.

This project, which is born from a Local Action Group and  the University Extension Program of the Jaume I University – PEU UJI. The Local Action Group Castellón Sur 14-20 includes and works with the municipalities of Argelita, Zucaina, Fuente la Reina and Montanejos in Alto Mijares; Almedijar, Castellnovo, Altura, Geldo, Bejís, Jérica, Benafer, Navajas, Segorbe, Sot de Ferrer, Soneja and Teresa in Alto Palancia and Vistabella del Maestrat in the region of Alcalatén.

Since it started in 2020, Patrimonio eres tú! (Heritage Is You!) has reached Montanejos, Geldo, Castellnovo, Sot de Ferrer and Almedíjar. In all, there has been a great involvement of citizens and associations and entities that work and fight to enhance and promote their local heritage as a tourist attraction.

The development of this project continues in 2022 with meetings that may be face-to-face or virtual and participatory workshops in which the importance of heritage and its social function as a resource for the definition of intermunicipal networks of collaboration and development is made visible.

Objectives:

- Knowing and value our cultural heritage as a resource to strengthen cooperation and collaboration.

- Promoting associative movement

- Developping common actions of a supramunicipal nature that articulate networks of exchange and shared learning around cultural heritage.

- Involving citizens in the process of defining the project and its development

- Identifying common problems in terms of knowledge, conservation and dissemination of cultural heritage

In these workshops, the representative groups will establish bases for the development of a socialization  project of cultural heritage based on heritage education. Among the actions planned, local problems will be identified as a starting point for the proposal of concrete actions aimed at acting face to detected challenges.

The actions designed and included in this proposal will provide the continuity of the Project, and it will create a stable territorial network based on cultural heritage. The actions and methodologies based on the transversal participation of citizens (institutions, associations, groups, collectives, interested persons, private entities) will based the value, use and management of their cultural heritage .

Through this project we are discovering the great heritage that our municipalities have, but in addition to knowing and understanding it, we value all the efforts made by the different entities and associations to preserve and promote it.

European Dimension

The active participation of protagonists and social agents in the study and defense of Intangible Heritage in Europe has administrative legal provisions such as the Faro Convention of 2005.

The "heritage community" is composed of "people who give value to specific aspects of cultural heritage and who, in the context of public action, want to maintain and transmit it to future generations". In this way, “Patrimonio eres tú! (Heritage is you!” contributes to the heritage democratisation and places heritage communities at the centre of the decisions.
