The growing industrialization period and the open character of the suecanos allowed Modernism, the European artistic movement of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, to spread rapidly throughout the city. For this reason, in Sueca, the society began to build and reform buildings and houses aware of the importance of new architectural forms.

Sueca, adhered to the European Route of Modernism since 2006, approaches this historical moment with the most emblematic modernist buildings of local architects such as Bonaventura Ferrando, Joan Guardiola, Emili Artal and Julià Ferrando. Sueca’s professionals who knew everything that moved artistically in Europe.*

Through an activity organized by the Colegio de Aparejadores y Arquitectos Técnicos de Valencia lencia and the collaboration of Department of Youth from the Sueca’s CityHall, the modernism fine art characteristics will be worked on. A workshop coordinated by ARAE Patrimonio para niños, a team of experts in heritage education.

Learn the architectural features of the buildings of this unique architectural period that defines the streets of Sueca.

In the historic center of Sueca we find numerous buildings created in the splendor of the modernist era. Most of them are private (so we cannot know their interiors), but we can admire their spectacular facades, full of details and materiality.

The shapes and colors of modernism attract the attention of the little ones. Therefore, it will be reflected, through the illustrations of the selected facades, the vision that its inhabitants and smaller visitors have of its streets, promoting interest in the architecture of the buildings.
