Aperçu

This is an expanded version of the talk given for the annual Cahersiveen Festival of Music & the Arts which ran over the August public holiday weekend and is particularly intended for those who could not attend on the day as the room was full to capacity. Delivered by Archaeologist and Gaeltacht Tourism Officer for South Kerry, Aoibheann Lambe, this illustrated talk is a love letter to the beautiful cultural and natural landscapes of the Iveragh Peninsula in South Kerry and the original Irish language placenames in the area.

This talk could not have been given without the wonderful work of Breandán Ó Ciobháin and his series of books 'Toponomia Hiberniae' as well as fantastic resources like Logainmneacha and the book 'Placenames of Ireland' by Deirdre Flanagan and Laurence Flanagan - and of course a knowledge of our native language. A talk on names associated with farming with be delivered at the 2024 Skellig Coast Archaeology Festival 18–20 October.
This talk will be delivered online.
