Forestry & Water Quality - The Physical & Cultural Connections
This Heritage Week event is aimed at forestry practitioners, forestry owners and landowners. The event is being delivered jointly by Ruairí Ó Conchúir (Local Authority Waters Programme) and Dermot Houlihan (Association of Irish Forestry Consultants) together with local forestry owners in West Clare, incl. forestry owners involved in the Inagh EIP.
The free event will include a networking & classroom element (with tea/coffee on arrival), incl. presentations on scene setting, forestry and water quality, agro-forestry, and the forestry & water quality policy context, but the bulk of the day will be spent in the field, visiting various forestry sites, and a packed lunch (excluding drink) will be provided. Please respect that No Dogs Are Allowed.
This event is focused on reviewing best practice in the Upper Inagh River Catchment. It will explore how forestry practitioners / owners can explore ways of reducing impacts. It will review project work implemented as part of the Inagh EIP and related work on nearby forestry sites. It will review how forestry can play a positive role in restoring, protecting and enhancing local water quality, instream habitat and the riparian biodiversity of local waterbodies and play a leading role in mitigating the impacts of poorly selected forest sites. It will examine tree species, buffer zones and practices that can support environmental benefits along watercourses to provide the shade to protect fish from thermal stress and how a well-designed plan for riparian trees can also provide a buffer from the impacts of other land use practices.
This free event will include both a classroom and field element to demo sites in the Upper Inagh River Catchment, West Clare. The total number attending will be capped and car pooling will be recommended. Tea / coffee will be provided on arrival and a light packed lunch (excluding drink) will also be provided for the field trip element of the day.
Please bring your own drink for the field trip. Please bring suitable clothing.
Please respect that No Dogs Are Allowed.
