Aperçu

The Follies Trust is conserving Reynold's Folly at Coolbeg, Co Donegal, with financial help from the Heritage Council under their Community Heritage Grant Scheme. The folly was built in 1843 to provide a small hilltop stone house where the owners of nearby Coolbeg House could enjoy tea and a wonderful panoramic view of the surrounding landscape and Donegal bay.

Join us on Sunday 18th August where members of the Follies Trust will be on site from 11am to 4pm to show how the project is progressing. During the event we will be explaining the key elements of the conservation programme. This is an opportunity to get some brisk exercise with a walk to the site from the road, to enjoy the views over Donegal bay and Rossnowlagh beach. You will be able to learn about the various techniques and processes used in conserving the folly, to learn about the history of the family, why the folly was built and to understand the key philosophy of conserving a heritage structure as found, as opposed to a full restoration of every element of the original building.
There is very limited roadside parking at the bottom of the hill where the folly is located. Access to the folly is up a steep grass covered hill with an uneven surface. Unfortunately, because of this there is no easy disabled access
