“ Raphoe, an ancient place with a colourful history" Join us on an amble around the Diamond, hear the story of the foundation of this early settlement that takes its name from Rath Bhoth, Fort of the Huts. The many buildings that tell their own unique story beginning with the 12th century Cathedral of St. Eunan, the possible site of a much earlier monastery, overlooked by the Bishop’s Palace also known as the Castle. The Plantation town layout with its many listed buildings dating back to the 17 and 18 hundreds. The connections in the Diamond with the Parliament at Westminster, the First Dáil, the Senate and Donegal Council. The walk will be lead by Mary Harte, historian and archaeologist who grew up in the Diamond. Free, starting at the Cathedral 2pm. Followed up with a cup of tea and some treats in the Masonic Hall.
