The Dominican Priory Athenry will host an event to commemorate the arrival of the order to Ireland. Join us with music, song and storytelling, to celebrate this momentous 800th anniversary.

The Priory, being the first to be built in Connacht was founded by Meiler de Bermingham second baron of Athenry in 1241 and finished 1261. The construction supported by the Anglo-Normans and the Gaelic clans bears testament to both rich cultural societies working together.

To this day, the Dominican Order has left an indelible mark on the history of Athenry, Galway and Ireland.
