The Irish Labour History Society (ILHS) was successfully awarded under the Heritage Council's Community Heritage Grants Scheme towards the conservation of original Irish Citizen Army uniform and a unique Irish Women Workers Union (IWWU) trade union banner. Progress is continuing on this project, aimed at ensuring the long-term conservation of these unique objects.
The ILHS are hosting an open day on Saturday morning 24th August 2024 from 10AM to 1PM where representatives of the Society will be available to give you a tour of the Society collections on display. This will include the Irish Citizen Army uniforms, historic trade union banners, a large collection of framed photographs relating to 20th Irish history and other objects from the Society collections including ephemera. Please note that the IWWU banner is currently off-site undertaking conservation work by a professional conservator.
Please note that there is no lift access to the upstairs area of the historic building that the Society collections are stored in (a former Army barracks).
Please email secretary@irishlabourhistorysociety.com if you have any questions in relation to this event.
