Aperçu

Here in South Sligo, we have such a varied and rich history. A Heritage Trail has been created for the week, visiting just a few of the many interesting sites withing a few miles of the Heritage Centre at Drummartin. During the week, information and maps will be available for anyone to drive, cycle or walk the route. On the 20th August from 5.30pm, we will be running a bus to tour the trail. We start at the Flax boat outside the Heritage Centre and learn about the connection to the Mullarkey family, find out who planted the tree in the car park? We will visit battle grounds, the place where a pot of gold is buried, Diarmuid and Grainne's resting place and learn about the people who once lived on the shores of Lough Talt. At around 7pm, there will be a guided walk taking in The Frenchman's Grave and the Graveyard of the Innocents. Refreshments and music back at the centre. Places on the bus are limited so please email if you wish to book a seat. Please note that some of the places visited might be a little muddy, so appropriate footwear should be worn.
