Shadow Play Silhouette Workshops
Join us in the Nádúrlann (Nature study room) for a fun and easy Silhouette workshop. For this workshop we will be rediscovering this old 19th century technique made popular for its affordability as an alternative to having a photograph of a painting made of your likeness. You can connect with Patrick Pearse who had his made when he visited New York in 1914, 110 years ago.
We will be using a light source and a white backdrop and drawing out the shadow cast to make the likeness, then with the scissors we will cut out the silhouette, then the cut out will be glued to a hard black card and we will then recut the silhouette giving you a clean clear silhouette in the style of the 19th century craft. This is your chance to celebrate the theme of this year’s Heritage Week of Connections, Routes and Networks. The workshops will take roughly 2 hrs. All materials will be supplied however be prepared for a lot of snipping with scissors.
