Aperçu

On Saturday, 17th of August at 12pm, we will host a guided walk from the Moate at Ardmayle to learn about the life and legacy of ‘The King of the Roads’, Charles Bianconi (1786 - 1875). It was from here that Bianconi, (pictured above), as a young man, first saw Longfield House, which in later years, became his home. Séamus Ó Dubhagáin, a registered Heritage Council expert, will lead us from Ardmayle Moate along the Mass Path on the Nodstown road, over to the Bianconi Mortuary Chapel in Boherlahan. (Approximately 1.5km) Along the way, Séamus will share his knowledge of local history, flora and fauna and of the lasting impact Bianconi and his family have had in this area. On arrival at the Chapel, we will have a short presentation about the life and times of Charles Bianconi and his family. Then, the Chapel where Bianconi and his family were laid to rest will be opened for the visitors to explore a new exhibition about its construction. The display will also explain the project currently under way for the conservation and maintenance of the Chapel. An Architectural Heritage Report on the building is being prepared and planned work includes preservation of the Benzoni marble reliefs inside. Booking advised (by email or by text to the below contact details).
