All are welcome to come along to the Fore Abbey Coffee Shop on Thursday August 22nd at 3 - 5 pm for an afternoon of story sharing and reminiscing. This event will be an opportunity for those who grew up in or around the area to share stories and memories about times past in Fore. The wonderful history, folklore and archaeology of the area will also be discussed.

This Heritage Week event is an output of the Fore Heritage Interpretation Plan that is being developed by Abarta Heritage (who are hosting this event). Westmeath County Council commissioned Abarta Heritage to undertake the plan with the support from The Heritage Council’s Irish Walled Towns Network Interpretation Grant Scheme 2024.

Community consultation is an important part of the interpretation plan as not everything is written down. Communities are a treasure-trove of stories, histories and folklore held in memory and often just handed down orally among families. Some will be half remembered tales told by grandparents, strange things heard as children and so on, but they’re valuable. This event is a way of sharing some of those memories over an enjoyable afternoon of tea, cakes and chat!
