Tour of Blarney's Church of the Resurrection
Blarney Village was built between 1764 and 1777, with the Church being one of the final buildings to be added. The Church was intended as a classical 'eye catcher', built on the hill above the village, a building intended to be appreciated from village and estate alike, but also a high vantage point from which to appreciate the beauties of the castle and estate below. The architect responsible for the design of the church has been identified as Christopher Myers, who was the lead architect in the state when the church was constructed, acting as the head of the 'Board of Works'. As the church reaches a quarter of a millennium, there is an intention by the church community to conserve the church, and prepare it for its next 250 years, as a vibrant, inclusive part of Blarney's future. Come along to see the vision for the church, hear about the history of the building, and join us for tea and cake.
