Aperçu

At 7.30pm there will be a one hour talk on the history of the church, its patron, its funding, architectural design, building materials and local families associated with it when it was first built.

During the day the church and graveyard will be open for visitors to look around and ask questions from the guides.

Glenealy Parish Church was built in 1792. The land on which the church is built was donated by Mrs Sarah Tighe, a local landowner, and the funding was provided by the Board of First Fruits, as was the case with many Church of Ireland churches at this time. This elegant little church perches on top of a hill overlooking Glenealy village and has provided a local landmark for over two hundred years. Its distinguishing feature is the collegiate nature of its seating with the pews facing each other separated by a central aisle. We would like to welcome visitors from the locality and further afield to enter the doors of the church and discover its history.
