Aperçu

During fifty-eight years, from 1838 till 1896, boats from the South and aimed at Paris crossed the Loire in Châtillon-sur-Loire, thanks to the lock of Mantelot. The boats which arrived by the lateral channel(canal) at the Loire borrowed then the old channel(canal) to join the station of water of Mantelot. It was necessary to sometimes wait several days or sometimes even several weeks before the conditions of navigation(browsing) are favorable. When river and weather report allowed it finally, boats made a commitment in the lock of Mantelot and dashed(launched) on the Loire following a channel created by set(group) of small dikes or "roes", the roes of Ousson, of Mantelot and of the Snail. For a long time abandoned(given up), the lock of Mantelot, listed(classified) in conformance with(for) Historic monuments in 1978, knows a new youth today. Since 2003, the doors of the lock open again to let through the pleasure boats.
