Discover the church of Sant Martí de Montbram in Lavail
This building is the ancient church of the old village of La Vall de Montbram, which has become a hamlet and is now part of the municipality of Sorède. It is also the place where the first founding monks of the monastery of Sant Andreu de Sureda settled, in the early abbey, in the 800’s. Throughout the Middle Ages, it was a monastic cella that belonged to this place and the church remained under its dependence until the end of the 16th century. This Romanesque building, with a single nave with small openings, is characterized by a great sobriety and rusticity. One will remember the absence of frescoes, a support of Trinitarian campanile and the carved stone portal as well as the presence of religious elements charged with history.
