Aperçu

The Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel is classified as a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention (on 46,000 ha!). This classification covers the maritime part of the bay but also the polders and tidal marshes. The bay of Mont-Saint-Michel is a bay located between Brittany (southwest) and Avranchin (at the base of the Norman peninsula of Cotentin, east) at the bottom of the Normanno-Breton Gulf. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979\\. The very large tidal range in the region (up to 15 meters) allows a large part of this bay to be discovered at low tide. Two granitic islets are located in the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, Tombelaine and Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy. The area is home to a wide variety of birds and marine calf seals.
