Aperçu

The cathedral was built in the 11th century. It contains a single nave of Romanesque origin, a 14th-century Gothic choir, three beautiful portals, funerary murals, Nottingham alabasters, bas-reliefs, a crucifixion by the Flemish painter Jacob Jordaens and 18th-century railings. The cathedral is a witness of a thousand years of Bordeaux history. More recently the presence of the Grandes Orgues, and the treasure bequeathed by Abbé Marcadet, the chapels and the sacristy restored, offer something to marvel at. Listed as a Historical Monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998 under the Ways of Santiago de Compostela.
