Guided tour of the exhibition collections La mode en mouvement #2 in French Sign Language (LSF)
A stone’s throw from the most prestigious couture showcases, the Galliera Museum is housed in a Renaissance-inspired palace, embellished with a garden. Built at the end of the 19th century, this beautiful stone monument hides a metallic structure designed by the agency of Gustave Eiffel. If its vocation, first was to house the private collection of Marie Brignole-Sale, duchess of Galliera, history decides otherwise. Completed in 1894, after her death the duchess, whose scultptures, paintings and precious objects, leave for Genoa, her hometown, the building is bequeathed to the City of Paris. It was not until much later, after many adventures, that it became a museum devoted to fashion in 1977.
