Aperçu

The magnificent castle, in which the restaurant and a boarding school are still located, was built between 1874 and 1887 at the initiative of the Comte de Couronnel, company captain and owner of several estates in the commune of Magnac-Laval. Upon his death, the estate was sold to Mr. Bancel. In the 1950s his son opened a zoo with exotic birds, lions, crocodiles and wolves. Too expensive it closes its doors after 3 years and the estate is sold in 1962 to the Mutuelles agricoles who installed a Winter Agriculture School. In 1965, the latter became the Agricultural College, which was later to be called the Agricultural Vocational School from 1980. Henceforth, the agricultural high school of Magnac-Laval mainly trains young people in sales techniques in pet store even if there is still a training in agriculture by apprenticeship on the site of the high school.
