Aperçu

This beautiful mansion of merchants embodies part of the history of the city. Its two large ogive openings, which once overlooked the main street, allowed access to the commercial space. The upper floors, with their cross windows, corresponded to the living quarters, surmounted by an attic equipped with a pulley to hoist the provisions from the outside. Inside, you will discover a spiral staircase serving the different levels, as well as imposing stone fireplaces. In front of these are exhibited remarkable pieces such as a farrier’s work, water mill wheels, a windmill (grain tap), a tailpiece, a roaster, a chestnut debugger, grain chests and bride, wheels, churns and doormats. These pieces of furniture, utensils and everyday tools evoke family life, agricultural activities, and crafts from the end of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century. All these objects were actually used! The exhibition also evokes prominent personalities from Treignac, such as the famous lawyer Charles Lac
