This mansion dates back to the 19th century. It belonged to Léopold Sédar Senghor’s wife, Colette Hubert, whom he married in second marriage on 18 October 1956\\. In 1960, he became President of Senegal. Nevertheless, the couple became accustomed to spend their summer holidays in Verson in the family house. In 1980, Senghor left the presidency of Senegal and settled permanently in France. Upon his retirement, he split his time between Paris and Verson. The calm of the Norman countryside quickly prevailed and he left Verson more and more rarely, where he found inspiration and wrote many poems. In 1995, Léopold Sédar Senghor inaugurated the Espace Senghor. The city of Verson always strives to convey the values dear to the poet-president: the dialogue of cultures, the civilization of the Universal, the Francophonie… particularly in its cultural programming.
