A former Jesuit convent and church, the arsenal was created in 1764 to house newly disembarked soldiers. After much damage caused by the Revolution and many cyclones, the establishment was rebuilt in its entirety from 1831\\. The place now serves as private dwellings but has retained its walls of enclosures and supports, the gate and the double staircase of the garden, and the water system. This site reflects the religious and military history of the island.
