Pieusse is located on a hill overlooking the river Aude and the Razès valley. To the east, the hills are covered with vineyards that produce the blanquette of Limoux. The history of the village dates back to the Gallo-Roman era. Its strategic location on the hill allowed to defend the access to the high valley of the Aude. Between 1222 and 1225, at Pieusse, the Cathar council was held to constitute a new bishopric of Razès and designate a new bishop. Joseph Delteil, celebrated writer and poet lived in Pieusse his young years and is buried in the cemetery of the commune.
