Explore the history museum of Figeac
The Musée d'histoire de Figeac, a French museum backed by the recently restored salons of the former seminary, embodies the material memory of the city and the department of the Lot, but also testifies, well beyond, to the distant journeys made by its many generous donors. Set up partly in the spirit of cabinets of curiosities, the museum features a collection of works by the Catalan painter Pierre Daura (1896 – 1976), as well as presidential gifts given to President Georges Pompidou (elephant tusks, fantasia saddles). Prehistoric tools (Acheulean bifaces, Neolithic axes) rub shoulders with firearms, while buff toads and naturalized seahorses border with minerals and fossils from the Figeac region. Finally, to the painted portraits are added the movable wealth, in particular the remarkable furniture of sacristy of the church Notre-Dame-du-Puy, as well as a head of Christ of local origin carved before the French Revolution.
