Aperçu

The Maison des Messiaen is a place steeped in history. This house has hosted two important figures of French culture: Olivier Messiaen, world-renowned composer, and his uncle, the sculptor Léon Messiaen. Olivier Messiaen spent much of his youth in this house, returning regularly throughout his life to recharge his batteries. He found inspiration in the singing of birds, which marked his work, and it was here that he composed nearly a third of his musical production. This place, conducive to creation, is deeply linked to its artistic heritage. His uncle, Léon Messiaen, a sculptor, moved to La Chaise, a nearby village, at the age of 16\\. Among his works, the most emblematic, Énergie fauchée, is in the cemetery of La Chaise, and a replica is visible in Troyes. This sculpture was chosen as a symbol of the commemorations of the Centenary of the First World War in 2018\\. This place embodies both a site of artistic memory and an architectural treasure in Champagne.
