Aperçu

This mulberry tree has been planted under the royal ordinance of Henry IV for more than 400 years. A true star of the municipality, it has been ranked «Remarkable Tree of France» since 2015\\. In 1602, in order to revive silk production in France, Henri IV issued a royal decree requiring each parish to own a mulberry nursery, since their leaves were used as food for the silkworm caterpillars. As the tree is hollow inside, a metal strapping was installed a hundred years ago on the top of its trunk to prevent it from opening. The trunk is 3.7 m in circumference and 3.90 m in girth. It has a 9 m canopy diameter and a height of 6-7 m.
