Aperçu

The church, built in 1847, is decorated with an interesting Second Empire decoration in pastel tones. But the building has also preserved some traces of the old Romanesque church that it replaced, revealing the history of the village. In the 12th century, Arrout is a possession of the Order of the Temple, falling under the preceptory of Montsaunès en Comminges: the Romanesque chapel is probably the work of the Templars themselves. From their building survived the sculpted portal, dismantled and then placed inside the 19th century church, at the entrance of the baptismal font. Generally rustic, sculpted in a very simple way, this portal dates from the beginning of the thirteenth century: this period saw the advent of the Gothic style in the north of France, while the Pyrenees stick to the achievements of the Romanesque era. The semi-circular arch of the portal consists of four mouldings drowned in an abundance of ornaments: pattern of ears, diamonds, snakes, rosettes, frieze of masks ta
