Aperçu

Under the French Revolution, writer Benjamin Constant bought the guest house of Notre-Dame d'Hérivaux Abbey, at the southern end of the convent buildings. It is the heart of the building known today as Chateau d'Hérivaux. But all the ornamentation is due to the transformations undergone in the twentieth century. In 1913, the windows are decorated with carved staples and gardens are arranged; in 1934, on the plans of the architect Ruaud, are added the lateral forebodies, a balcony and a porch. The commons were built around 1820 against the wall of the church, a tower marking the location of the transept. This Tuscan-style tower is decorated with lapidary fragments: capitals, keystones, colonnettes and ogives. They are recomposed according to a very studied presentation, such as the niche housing a recumbent above the door.
