OUR ROMERÍAS

Festive meeting points, the romerías were a great occasion for social relationships. On foot, by bicycle, by tram, by train, by bus, or by car, young people would attend these events seeking new friendships. Relationships between communities were established, and deals were sometimes made, as was the case with the festivity of Saint Anthony in Urkiola. The Arratia tram, the train to Durango, the bus, and the car changed habits and modified timeframes since it became easier and quicker to move around Bizkaia. Thus, larger festivals gradually relegated romerías to a more traditional and folkloric sense: “our romerías.”

NUESTRAS ROMERÍAS 

Punto de encuentro festivo, las romerías eran un buen momento para las relaciones sociales. A pie, en bicicleta, en tranvía, en tren, en autobús o en coche, a ellas acudían jóvenes en busca de nuevas amistades, se establecían relaciones entre comunidades o se hacían incluso “tratos” como en la festividad de San Antonio en Urkiola. El tranvía de Arratia, el tren a Durango, el autobús y el coche, cambiaron los hábitos y modificaron los tiempos pues ahora era más fácil y rápido moverse por Bizkaia, y así las fiestas grandes fueron poco a poco relegando a una acepción más de sabor tradicional y folklórico “geure erromeriak”.

GURE ERROMERIAK 

Jai-giroko elkargune gisa, erromeriak parada egokia ziren gizarte-harremanetarako. Oinez, bizikletaz, tranbiaz, trenez, autobusez edo autoz joaten ziren gazteak erromerietara lagun berrien bila, eta harreman hertsiak sortzen ziren komunitateen artean, eta tratuak ere egiten ziren, esaterako, Urkiolan, San Antonio egunean. Arratiako tranbia, Durangorako trena, autobusa eta autoa garraiobideek ohiturak aldatu zituzten eta denborak eraldatu, haiei esker, errazagoa eta azkarragoa baitzen Bizkaitik mugitzea; hala bada, jai handiek, pixkanaka, adiera tradizionalagoa eta folklorikoagoa hartu zuten: “geure erromeriak”.
