Aperçu

Montélier is one of the northernmost examples of perched villages, located south of the Isère River. It has an altitude of 200 metres and an area of 2,476 hectares. The ancient village lies around the mountain at the top of which stood the feudal castle, of which there remains no vestige. The primitive castral church was replaced by the Saint-Prix church, built in the 19th century, which dominates the village by its voluminous structure. The ancient village has some remains of its medieval enclosure. The history of Montélier is marked by the presence of the Sassenage family, at the initiative of the construction of the new castle at the foot of the old village.
