Typical Creole villa built at the end of the 18th century, in neoclassical style, Villa Rivière includes a stone building and a wooden facade, with veranda and pilasters. On two levels, the villa combines all the canons of classical composition and presents a rare architectural authenticity. The villa, its outbuildings and the garden have been listed as Historic Monuments since 1990. It is the only Creole hut of the 18th open to the public. At the front, the Creole garden takes the traditional symmetry of the French gardens of its time. At the back, a spice garden invites to travel. As usual, the original kitchen is located outside the villa. Inside, the collections reveal the rich history from the Isle Bourbon at the time of the Compagnie des Indes until today.
