Inauguration of the restoration of the Lodge of the Virgin
This wall enclosure houses the church, the episcopal palace and the lodges. The latter, unique in Europe, protected wine, crops and wood. They were inhabited only after the French Revolution. Thus, during his episcopate, Hugues des Hazards (bishop from 1506 to 1517) had a castle and a church built between 1506 and 1512\\. In 1516, he gave permission to build lodges in the walled enclosure, one per household. About sixty of these houses, intended to store and shelter crops, are built and can also serve as a refuge. While most of these houses lost their primary purpose of storage for that of habitat during the Revolution, the «Lodge of the Virgin» would have experienced this mutation at the beginning of the sixteenth century thanks to the occupation of the house by the parish priest of Blénod, bishop’s nephew. Its current provisions testify to its history and the transformations that accompanied its change of use.
