The Toulouse Labour Exchange, one of the oldest in France, a memory of trade union activity and workers' culture, has dominated Place Saint-Sernin since 1892. This construction, decided by the Socialist Municipal Council on February 15, 1928, was inaugurated in 1931\\. It replaces a more modest building that was already home to the Union des syndicats de la Haute-Garonne as well as professional courses that train many children (from the age of 13) in trades and industry. The plans were drawn up by the city architect Jean Montariol. The work was awarded to the contractor Paul Barthe.
