Aperçu

The museum traces a century of coal mining in the village of Gagnières called at the time «Castillon de Ganière». The hanged room and the mine gallery with its miners, wagonnet, cuffat and tools, plunge the visitor into the everyday world of the underground miner. Many explanatory panels focus on the dangerousness of the working conditions of women and children, on the indisputable influence of mining companies in the life of the village. We also discover the history of the wells, their infrastructure and of course the railway that became essential to the commercialization of coal.
