Aperçu

In the 15th century, this small seigneury depended on the barony of Saint-Sauvant, then it was sold to Arthus Lecomte, advisor to the king and baron of La Chaume. Other owners succeed each other and from the end of the seventeenth century, it is powerful families of Bordeaux who take possession of it, Romefort becoming a land of report and a pleasant and bucolic second home... Since 2018, the castle and its 40 hectares have been acquired by the agglomeration community of Saintes. From an architectural point of view, the fifteenth century home still presents itself today as a building of modest appearance covered with slates overlooking a courtyard where were raised commons. Most amazing is the chapel on porch that has been preserved from the north wing. It also dates from the fifteenth century and is in the flamboyant Gothic style. The complex is protected as historical monuments.
