Guided tours of a jewel of the national maritime heritage!
The Hotel de la Marine, built in the 17th century to receive Louis XIV, is one of the jewels of the national maritime heritage and is recognized in 2015 by its inscription as a Historic Monument. Built from 1671, on the site of a castle-fort that gave its name to the city, the Hotel de la Marine, first known as the King’s House, had been conceived initially as the place intended to welcome Louis XIV for a visit of the arsenal which he never carried out, before becoming, at the end of the seventeenth century, the residence of the intendants. On the eve of the Revolution (1781), it was the naval commanders who invested this emblematic place of power, leaving to the intendants the hotel of Cheusses (current museum of the navy). It became a maritime prefecture in 1800 and remained in the hands of the navy until 2002\\. Purchased by the city, it now houses the National Gendarmerie School Command.
