Aperçu

The hospital in La Grave has undergone many transformations since its appearance in the documents in 1197\\. It became a San Sebastian hospital in the fourteenth century and was then reserved for the isolation of the plagues. In the seventeenth century, it took the name of "General Hospital Saint-Joseph de La Grave" and became the place of the Great Enclosure of beggars and miseries, of which the great square courts of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries still testify today . Finally, in the 19th and 20th centuries, orphanages and medicalization of services and geriatrics were established. The latter in turn left the institution in 2010 to settle in the more modern structures of the Hôpital Garonne. A major player in the organization of the entire urban space of the Saint-Cyprien district with its neighbour the Hôtel-dieu Saint-Jacques, the Saint-Joseph de La Grave Hospital represents the symbol of the genesis of the Toulouse health community and its history.
