Guided tour of a historic iron mine
Hussigny Godbrange, is a locality in which iron ore has been mined for a long time. In the Selomont Forest, iron ore was mined, washed and transported by trolley to Longwy before being transported to various ironworks. Minette mining in the Côte Rouge valley began gradually from the mid-19th century. The Labbe family of the Forges de Gorcy obtained the concession of Hussigny in 1874, and the exploitation by galleries began soon after. The Hussigny mine, known as the "old mine of the ancients", operated until 1954 for underground galleries, and open-pit mining continued until 1967\\. The mining activity at Hussigny Godbrange finally ceased in 1978, making this place an emblematic site of Lorraine industrial history.
