Aperçu

The bell tower, classified as a Historic Monument in 1841, is the only vestige of the Romanesque church of the second quarter of the twelfth century. It is attributed to the knight Burkhard de Gueberschwihr, founder of the Marbach Abbey. The rest of the building was rebuilt between 1874 and 1878 under the direction of the architect Jean-Baptiste Schacre Sr (1808-1876). He designed the plans in a neo-Romanesque style, with rigor and concern for harmony, carefully preserving the old bell tower of the twelfth century.
