Housed in a Victorian school building dating back to 1837, the Tarves Heritage Centre sits proudly in the heart of Tarves village’s conservation area.
Within the Heritage Centre visitors will be treated to a glimpse of a different era. An authentic Victorian schoolroom has been lovingly recreated from 1881, when the school first opened to both boys and girls. Visitors can try writing on slates, dress in period clothing, and even experience pen-and-ink exercises—perfect for immersive learning and photo opportunities.
The Corbert Room: A rich collection of local memorabilia, showcasing the rhythms of rural life and social history through objects, photographs, and archival materials.
Rotating Exhibits: Displays change regularly, so each visit offers something new—from 1950s kitchens to local shops that once sold “everything from a needle to a camel”.
The centre is run by passionate volunteers who bring the past to life with warmth and insight.
For the event guides will be on hand offering opportunities to use pen and ink, covering a book, and various other displays linking to our theme including a photographic slide show of times in our area.
