21 September 2025 (11:00 - 16:00)
In 2023 St Fillan’s celebrated its 900th Anniversary, dating from 1123 it is most probably the oldest active church in Scotland.
St Fillan's church is one of the finest examples of Norman architecture in Scotland with the nave and chancel dating from 1123. This ‘miniature Cathedral’ sits in its own graveyard with views over the Forth to Edinburgh. It was enlarged in the 15th century with the addition of a side aisle, and in the 17th by the small transeptual aisle. The church fell into disrepair in the 18th century and was restored in 1926.
This year there will be a display about the Hewitt brothers who died within a few days of each other at the start of WW1.
There will be information available about the history of the church and informal guided tours will take place throughout the day with a guide book available to purchase. There will also be a display of the Church Silver.
Parking is available close by at the station car park.
There are steps into the church.
