The Explorathon Festival is back, celebrating the incredible diversity of research happening across Scotland and showcasing how it impacts our daily lives.
From cutting-edge engineering to arts and humanities, dip into the fantastic research happening on your doorstep, with family-friendly activities and exhibits as part of the Scotland-wide “Explorathon” festival, in partnership with Glasgow Doors Open Days.
Pre-booking is not required for the drop-in family-friendly activities and exhibits.

11am-12pm Sat 20th September: Language Taster: Traditional Flavors & Recipes in Catalonia, Spain & Italy
Join us for an interactive workshop to discover the origin and traditions around a selection of popular dishes enjoyed in each season of the year in Catalonia, Spain and Italy.
You will:
It will be an enjoyable language and culture learning experience with us in the University of Glasgow School of Modern Languages & Cultures (SMLC) and an occasion to find out about dishes and conviviality of meals in these Mediterranean countries' culinary tradition.
This event is for participants aged 12+
20th & 21st September: Researchers at Work: Tours of the ARC
Come along and see our researchers in action! We’re hosting small group tours showcasing the world-class research going on in the ARC. You’ll see behind the scenes and our researchers will explain the ground-breaking work they are doing. We hope to excite our next generation of thinkers and there may even be a lab coat in your size!
Tours will take approximately one hour and will run at the following times on both 20 and 21 September:

This event is free but ticketed. Booking is essential to secure your slot.
Tours are open to all ages, but all children must be accompanied by an adult.
11am-12pm Sun 21st September: Superhero Science
Ever wondered if superpowers could be real? Join our Agents of Awesome for Superhero Science to explore the amazing science behind superhuman abilities!
Perfect for ages 10 and up, this interactive event delves into the fascinating world of physics, chemistry, and biology that explain how super-strength, invisibility, and even mind reading might come to life. Watch as our expert scientists reveal the secrets behind these incredible powers. Get involved as part of the mission and discover how you, too, can unleash your inner hero.
Recommended for participants aged 10+
